Happy MLK Day to Our Community

The Blue Note Salutes Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

We here at the Blue Note want to take a moment to salute and honor the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. As an organization dedicated to both preserving and expanding jazz music, we wish to acknowledge the incredible debt that this art form owes to Dr. King. His life and work have inspired so many of the artists that have graced the Blue Note over the past quarter-century, and his efforts and sacrifice have opened innumerable opportunities for all of those who practice and appreciate this art form. In a year in which this club has witnessed so much history, we would be remiss if we did not salute a person who made such a profound impact on the world and cultural landscape of today.

Michelle Carr Tonight!

It looks to be a great night tonight as we continue our Monday Night Series with vocalist Michelle Carr. Having worked with such jazz luminaries as Nancy Wilson, Roy Hargrove and Christian McBride in addition to an extensive training in classical and musical theater, Michelle brings an eclectic mix of influences and diverse array of performing credits to the stage. Tonight she leads her own stellar band featuring Lonnie Plaxico on bass, Mark Whitfield on guitar, Aviv Cohen on drums and Sam Barsh on piano. And rounding out the performance will be an opening feature by 16 year old vocalist Alison Stuart. There are so few opportunities to catch young exciting jazz artists in nice settings at reasonable prices—you don’t want to miss this! Tickets are still available.

This Day in Jazz History...

20 years ago today, the Modern Jazz Quartet dazzled audiences at the Blue Note during a week-long engagement.

The Blue Note extends our best birthday wishes to the following musicians:

Horace Parlan

Joe Magnarelli

Keep up the good work and thanks for the music!
